NPP FLAGBEARER RACE BEGINS.
A group of 60 members of parliaments (MPs) from the minority New Patriotic Party (NPP) paid a courtesy call on former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia yesterday, to declare their support for him as the race begins for the flagbearer position of the party. It is becoming obvious that Dr. Bawumia will heed to the call even though he has not officially declared his intention of doing so, this is because many people have encouraged him to take the position of the flagbearer. The visit by the overwhelming number of people of MPs from the NPP further encourages Dr. Bawumia to stand for the position as the preferred candidate. as the NPP takes a step to regain the governance of the country by winning the 2028 elections. According to sources close to the visit, the group of over 60 people was led by Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong, MP for Mampong, who declared his support for Dr. Bawumia and encouraged the former vice president to formally declare his interest to contest the race.
Mustapha Ussif, Rev. John Ntim Fordjour, Martin Adjei-Mensah Korsah, Nana Adjei Baffour Awuah and Kojo Oppong Nkrumah were some noticeable MPs who called on Dr. Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia addressing the press after the meeting, describes the visit as a "very happy visit because it is a courtesy call to declare support for me, and I'm so happy in terms of the group that has declared support for me from parliament".
He said the over 60 out of the total 88 MPs represent a very big significant number of MPs who have declared their support for him. "I just want to use this opportunity to thank all of them. I believe that this is going to be very very important because the members of parliament as u know, controls the constituencies to large extent. I am very happy for exactly what they have done today" he said.
